Tunnels Ten Mile starting line

Tunnels Ten Mile Race

The Tunnels Ten Mile race went very well for three CMC Leadville Running Club members! On April 17th, Darren, Harrison and Katie traveled to Buena Vista to participate in the muddy race. The course was designed as a point-to-point from the Antero Pump Station to the Oxygen Hog Endurance store on Railroad Street, but the sloppy, wintery conditions along CR 371 made that impossible. The Race Directors made the tough decision to change the course, eliminating the net downhill advantage for runners.

Katie Running Through the Tunnels

The Ten Mile race course went through the historic Midland Tunnels on CR 371. Here, Katie (at left, blue puffy) approaches the three mile mark.

Despite the muddy, slushy, gooey and fun conditions, our Club had a great showing: Harrison was 7th Overall and 1st in his age group, with a time of 1:25:55. Katie was 3rd Overall Woman, and 1st in her age group, in a time of 1:39:00. Darren finished in a blistering 1:09:37, good for the 3rd Place prize. Full results can be located here.

Thanks to Oxygen Hog Endurance, Finish Line Timing, and all of the other local sponsors for creating this fun, new race!
